Iowa City Road Bridge Replacement – Yuba County

Yuba county was reconstructing the flexible pavement section for the bridge approach on Iowa City Road. The engineer recommended a pavement section of 4” AC/ 15” AB to satisfy the required TI. However, during construction the contractor encountered subgrades that were deflecting under relatively light construction equipment loads.

The Countypartnered with Tensar to develop a subgrade stabilization solution that eliminated the need for over-excavation and material replacement. Using Tensar+ software, Tensar performed a design analysis that confirmed a single layer of InterAx®NX850 geogrid installed in the proposed pavement section would provide a firm, stable surface for paving. As a result, the contractor paved more efficiently and stayed on schedule.
