Functions and Applications of Geotextiles and Geogrids
(Duration 1 Hour // 1 PDH Credit)
Crushed stone and other aggregates have many uses in construction. When it comes to site work, maintaining the integrity and performance of aggregate layers is important for project success. If fine-grained soils are permitted to migrate into aggregate layers, the strength of the aggregate will be compromised, resulting in reduced performance, rework, or failures.
Our March webinar will discuss how and why aggregate layers fail when they are contaminated with fine-grained soils, along with the materials and design methods available to solve the problem. We’ll focus specifically on geotextiles and geogrids, with a review of how these materials function in this application and how to select the proper material depending on the soil conditions.
We’ll cover topics including:
- Why separation of fine-grained soils is important
- Methods to achieve and maintain separation
- A comparison of the available methods and when to use them
- Common misconceptions regarding separation
