At Tensar, our success depends on the proper application of our products by the engineers who design with them. So we decided to offer two $1,000 scholarships to be awarded to civil engineering students.Keep scrolling for details.

Deadline for Scholarship Contest Entries: May 31, 2020.

Civil engineering students interested in pavement design or mechanically stabilized earth structures now have a chance to learn more about those topics while having a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship.

Over the past 40 years, Tensar has invented many products and systems which have improved the way we build pavements and other site improvements like retaining walls. Most of our systems are based on a product called geogrid, which was invented by Tensar’s founder, Dr. Brian Mercer.

We make several types of geogrid, which can be used to stabilize granular materials and reinforce soil to improve their engineering properties. Design methodologies for incorporating geogrids have been developed, and the Design Challenges we are offering in this scholarship competition present an opportunity for you to learn about these methods and add them to your growing knowledge base as an engineer. One Design Challenge involves a pavement design, and the other a retaining wall design.

We also offer design software for these applications, which is widely used in the industry. You will have the opportunity to obtain this software and use it for a Design Challenge and for your future work on these types of applications.

Tensar's Engineering Faculty Curriculum Support

As part of this effort, we are also offering several resources to engineering faculty to support teaching in the subject areas in which we practice. We invite professors to make use of these materials if they would benefit students and fit in instructional plans.
