Tensar Support Tower Pad for Power Training Facility
Constructed in January 2026
“We faced a swampy, low CBR subgrade. Installing Tensar HX was very straightforward, and we achieved desired bearing capacity to pass a proof roll. Would be happy to use it again!”

Powerlink needed to build a pad to support a transmission tower, over a weak 3% CBR subgrade, described as ‘swampy’ by the client. This is part of a facility to train future workers in the Energy industry – a vital workforce sector to deliver reliable, sustainable power to Queensland.
The contractor installed a Tensar H-Series geogrid directly on the soft subgrade and then placed and compacted a granular layer on the geogrid. The resulting Tensar Mechanically Stabilised layer achieved the required bearing capacity, passing a proof roll as required. They found the installation process very straightforward and would recommend it for future use.
