Shoreline Stabilization with Geosynthetic Foundations

For years, the Longboat Pass at Longboat Key, FL, experienced wide swings in shoreline position. With the dwindling supply of sand and rising dredging costs, the Town of Longboat Key sought a more permanent solution for structurally stabilizing the Gulf of Mexico shoreline.

The stabilization included the construction of five low-elevation, permeable rock groins and the placement of a large quantity of beach-compatible sand to restore the shoreline position and maintain a sandy beach. The design utilized Tensar Triton® Marine Mattresses and Tensar grid composite to serve as the foundation structure for the groins. Learn the unique advantages of constructing groins with Triton Marine Mattresses and how Longboat Key benefitted from this design.
