Paved Roadway Construction
Conventional road construction practices present growing challenges to pavement engineers, contractors and owners. Budgets are under increasing pressure to deliver improved road construction performance for less money. The practice of installing a “standard” pavement section is proving to be problematic, costing owners additional time and money due to increasing traffic loads, inadequate pavement structures, and increasing material costs.
These issues have forced authorities to seek alternatives to conventional strategies to evaluate their projects and set priorities. A growing number of transportation professionals are adopting Tensar International’s Spectra® Roadway Improvement System, incorporating Tensar® TriAx® Geogrid, to optimize pavement design and construction.
The Spectra System combines Tensar TriAx Geogrid with aggregate fill to create a mechanically stabilized layer (MSL) that is significantly stiffer and more robust than a conventional unbound aggregate layer. The enhanced structural characteristics of the MSL allow the designer to obtain greater performance from the total pavement structure, which results in more economical construction, more consistent surfaces, improved performance, and longer life.
